Here’s the problem with being a Business major. Every Business major’s overlying aspiration is to rise to the top of the corporate ladder, to eventually secure a powerful and well to do position that will benefit them financially and socially. But what if liberal rights is something you feel strongly about? Conservation, battles vs. poverty, very left-wing ideals regarding social programs for the general public. A moderately left-wing worker in the corporate world will soon find himself in a battle between moral values and self-benefit. The two just simply can’t coexist. Does finding a balance mean risking a well paying job that I worked so hard through college and after to obtain?
And on to Occupy UCR. My friend here is a very respectable 4th year Accounting Major, president of the Accounting Society, and destined for success with the Big 4. It’s fine he has his opinions despite my disagreement, but it’s alarming how many people seem to share his ideals, or worse, are ignorant of them. (This IS UCR..) But this is case and point of what I mentioned earlier. OWS has become so diluted by numbers that there’s no longer a specific defined goal. All this 99%-1% Rich vs. Poor is giving the wrong impression to opponents, and like in this screencap, their proper response is telling them to “go to class” or “get a job.”
