Spelunking!
Reevaluating our Goals

I’ve had almost 3 months of good hard thinking about OWS ever since the message first popped on Reddit. And the biggest weakness that’s holding this movement back is its lack of a common goal. Even worse are the hundreds of thousands of people that are riding the OWS publicity wave to protest their own grievances.

I thought the main reason why they occupied Wall Street in the first place was to protest the carelessness and greed of big corporations. Think about the investment firms and their careless lending  that led to toxic assets and eventually the HUGE housing crash couple years ago. And when the government had to step in to bail these assholes out? Why were CEOs and top executives getting raises and bonuses? And WHY, after all the massive economic damage these guys caused to the U.S, and in effect, the entire world, were they never punished, let alone arrested?

Wasn’t this the original point of Occupy Wall Street? To protest against these executives and their moral hazard approach to business, and their extremely poor handling of bailout money that came from OUR pockets? Isn’t the point of OWS to protest against the executives of Wall Street?

So where did all this 99%, 1% crap come from? The 99%/1% is basically people talking about how poor they are compared to the rich. It’s ammunition for people who may otherwise be swayed for the cause to declare Class Warfare and disregard the movement as nothing more than a bunch of hippies complaining about how they can’t get a job. And unfortunately they’re right to a certain extent. One look at the protesters and their signs/cheers suggest that a good deal are mad about being unemployed and poor and “exploited” by the rich!

OWS isn’t a battle between the rich and the poor. That’s Marxist Communism. OWS SHOULD be a battle between executives that fucked up our economy for their personal gain, and everyone else that was affected by it, including the rich. Making these protests a battle between rich and poor, job and jobless, only deteriorates the main purpose of these protests. The entire OWS now seem to mainly consist of people bandwagoning the wave to protest their own grievances related to money and jobs. And with so many different opinions sprouting out of THAT subject, the movement is doomed until they can get back to what I believe is their original purpose.

Let’s get a little involved in modern affairs. The aforementioned is obviously my view only. What do you believe is the goal of OWS?
